Church of the Holy Trinity in Stypsi

The Holy Trinity Church dominates the center of Stypsi, a traditional mountain village in northern Lesvos known for its authentic architecture and views over the Aegean. One of the area’s most important churches, it was built in the mid-19th century, during a period of economic and spiritual flourishing, and is a characteristic example of post-Byzantine church architecture. Its stone construction, graceful arches and impressive dome highlight the skill of local craftsmen, while the interior is adorned with a wood-carved iconostasis and 19th-century portable icons that reveal the high quality of the era’s folk art. The Holy Trinity is the spiritual heart of Stypsi and a point of reference for its residents, who preserve the traditions and customs of the place. Each year, on Whit Monday, a festival is held with a liturgy, procession and local events, attracting many visitors from across Lesvos.
