The famous Muscat grape of Samos, according to myth, was gifted to them by Dionysus himself, and you can learn more about the island’s PDO product at the Wine Museum in Malagari. But it is not only about the wine! The fertile soils of Samos are home to the unique “throubolies” olives, while they also yield various distinctive honeys, fruits, nuts, vegetables, pulses, and herbs. Livestock farming is limited, mainly to cover the needs for dairy products, while fishing is also carried out on a small scale to meet each household’s needs. Finally, special mention must be made of Samos’s sweets, made with carefully selected local ingredients; starting from the traditional rice pudding and the Samian skaltsounia, we reach the katimeria and the tahini pies. After all, it is no coincidence that even the wine is sweet on this island!
