Archaeological Site of Drakano
The Folklore Museum of Vrakades is located in the settlement of Vrakades, in Raches, on Ikaria’s northwestern side, and is an important space for preserving local cultural heritage. The museum was founded at the initiative of Ikarian scholars in Athens and hosts many folklore exhibits that highlight the island’s history and traditions, such as traditional household utensils and old agricultural and beekeeping tools. Visitors can also explore archives, documents and books dating from the time of the Ikarian Revolution, while important ecclesiastical objects are kept from the Church of Prophet Elias and the Monastery of the Annunciation of Mavrianos. The museum offers a complete experience for those wishing to learn about Ikaria’s daily life, history and traditions.
