Image

The Pythagoreio Archaeological Museum is housed in a modern building inaugurated in 2010 and displays about 3,000 artifacts, mainly from the Pythagoreio area. Through finds dating from the Neolithic (4th millennium BC) to the Early Christian period (7th c. AD), the historical and cultural evolution of ancient Samos is revealed. Standouts include sculptures from the Archaic and Roman periods, such as the marble seated statue of Aiakes (6th c. BC), a large sarcophagus, and busts of Roman emperors. The exhibition is enriched with a 3D model of the ancient city, while in the outdoor area marble and stone architectural members are displayed beside part of an excavated ancient neighborhood.
