Archaeological Museum of Lemnos

Image

The Archaeological Museum of Lemnos is a two-storey building with a ground floor, featuring elements of austere neoclassical architecture. It presents the island’s historical course and development chronologically, from the Chalcolithic period to Roman times. The exhibition occupies both floors of the main building. The first floor houses exhibits from prehistoric Lemnos. For structural reasons, the museum’s stone pieces—sculptures, inscriptions, and funerary stelae from Classical to Roman times—are also placed in the two halls on this floor. On the second floor, the Lemnos of the historical period from the 8th c. BC to Roman times is presented. The first floor also includes the guard post, the shop area, and a guest room, while on the second floor there is the library and the WC. The museum comprises finds from all excavated ancient sites and serves as a cultural center for the local community and visitors.
