Ancient Theater of Samos
The ancient theater of Samos is located in Pythagoreio and is part of the archaeological ensemble of the city that is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The theater dates to the Roman period and hosted public performances with an orchestra, cavea, and stage. Today, sections of the seating tiers and foundations of the stage with an arch survive, while the orchestra and side passages can be identified from the remains. The theater has been reinforced with a modern wooden structure that allows performances and events to be held, seating about 750 spectators. Despite the limited surviving elements, the theater is a significant monument of Samos’s archaeological heritage and a reference point for the area’s cultural life.
