Asprolimni Lake

Asprolimni lies in eastern Lemnos between Chortarolimni and Aliki, covering about 500 stremmas. It belongs to the NATURA 2000 network as an important refuge for rare and threatened bird species. This is a seasonal lake with brackish water that often dries out in summer, leaving a white layer of salt on its surface, which gave it its name. Strong northeasterly winds carry sand and soil, creating impressive dunes around the lake. Asprolimni is ideal for birdwatching. Here one can see wild geese, herons, kingfishers, glossy ibises, and large flocks of flamingos that stop to feed and rest. It is a remarkable wetland that combines natural beauty with rare biodiversity.
