Komninakis-Krallis Mansion (Athens School of Fine Arts Art Station)

The Komninakis–Krallis Mansion in Mythimna, Lesvos, dates from 1812 and is linked to the area’s wealthy families. It was initially inhabited by the Komninakis family and later by the Krallis family; in 1960 it passed to the Athens School of Fine Arts. The three-storey building, with a stone ground floor and wooden upper floor, is a characteristic example of 19th-century local architecture. Of particular interest is the first-floor interior decoration, with wall paintings by folk painters depicting landscapes, floral compositions and scenes of daily life, as well as wooden ceiling paintings and built-in furniture. The mezzanine, which initially housed servants, is used today for student accommodation. The mansion is one of the School’s six Art Stations and hosts students every summer, linking cultural heritage with contemporary artistic creation.
