Antouaniko Mansion
The Kampos of Chios, a fertile area with estates of affluent merchant families, stands out for its impressive mansions, which evolved from the original 14th‑century Genoese towers. Built of Thymianousa stone with distinctive architectural designs and decorations, they are surrounded by auxiliary buildings and wells that supplied the orchards. A characteristic 18th‑century example is the Andouaniko Mansion, whose earliest parts belonged to the Mavroi, a branch of the Mavrokordatos family, while the main house was built in 1893 by the entrepreneur Dimitrios Tetteris. It took its name from his son, Antonis (Antoine/Andouanos). The estate was used for production and as a summer residence until the 1960s. Its restoration (2009–2012), combining traditional and modern techniques, was awarded in 2015 by Europa Nostra and the European Union for exemplary contribution to the preservation of cultural heritage.
