Mytilene Archaeological Museum New Building
The New Building of the Archaeological Museum of Mytilene is in the Kioski area. It is multi-level and houses the archaeological exhibition, offices, conservation laboratories for ceramics and metals, as well as storerooms with archaeological finds. The exhibition is organized into two main sections: permanent and temporary. The permanent exhibition, “Lesvos from the Hellenistic to the Roman Period,” presents a picture of life on ancient Lesvos from the 3rd c. BC to the 4th c. AD. Exhibits include mosaic floors and wall paintings from Hellenistic and Roman villas, sculptures and a few clay utilitarian objects that either had a cultic character or symbolized power and wealth. The venue also hosts events, educational programs and cultural activities by public or private bodies.
