Archaeological Site of Kambos

The Local Archival Collection of Ikaria was officially established in 2002, after many years of efforts to collect and manage the archival material of Ikaria and Fourni, under the supervision of the General State Archives—Archives of the Prefecture of Samos. It began operating in 2007, and since 2011 has been housed in the west wing of the Old Gymnasium in Agios Kirykos, in a renovated and equipped space. The Collection gathers public and private documents, civil registers, rolls, school and court archives, newspapers, periodicals, photographs and audiovisual material, as well as books related to Ikaria, offering valuable material for study and research. Interested researchers can visit the General State Archives online, specifically the Archives of the Prefecture of Samos, at http://gak.sam.sch.gr. It also hosts the Ikarian Library and General Library, serving researchers, schools and citizens, with the option of remote access via the internet. The Municipality of Ikaria oversees and supports its operation, ensuring the conservation, security and promotion of the collections.
