In the Vrontados area, 7 kilometers from Chios town, lies Daskalopetra beach, named after the famed poet of antiquity, Homer, who, according to tradition, taught there. It is a beach of small and large pebbles with crystal‑clear waters, beside the picturesque harbor of the same name with fishing boats and caiques where you can buy ultra‑fresh fish, savor seafood meze with ouzo, or enjoy your coffee or drink. At Daskalopetra stands the famous Stone of Homer. Here, tradition says, the creator of the epics the “Iliad” and the “Odyssey” would teach his students, playing the lyre, with the sea spreading out, enchanting, beneath his feet.
