Educational Institution of Kalloni

Image

The Kalloni School stands opposite the Kalloni–Petra junction and is the work of Mytilenian architect Asimakis Fouskas. It has become a landmark of the settlement, among other traditional buildings, thanks to its grandeur, architectural integrity and strong eclectic elements. The building is “Π”-shaped, with a prominent central entrance whose propylaea rest on columns and piers with Ionic capitals. The well-tended, green grounds further enhance the building. The school includes eight classrooms, an office, a large hall intended as a museum, and a basement divided into compartments. Construction began in 1923 and was completed in 1929, thanks to the financial support of Kalloni expatriates in America and the donation of the Monastery of Leimonas.
