Ecclesiastical Byzantine Museum of Mytilene
The Byzantine–Ecclesiastical Museum of Mytilene began operating in 1978. It is housed in a proprietary building opposite the entrance to the Church of Saint Therapon. It was founded by Metropolitan Iakovos Kleombrotos, who in 1958 found from his predecessor, Metropolitan Iakovos Nikolaou, a small collection of icons and decided to organize it and enrich it with other objects of Christian art from various churches. Among the exhibits, special pride of place is given to the collection of portable icons of Byzantine and folk art from the 13th to the 20th c. There are also collections of other ecclesiastical objects, such as woodcarvings, sacred vessels, carved wooden royal doors, archiepiscopal vestments, gospels, sacred books, religious manuscripts, ecclesiastical miniatures, etc.
