Church of Saint Demetrios (Kavos location)

The Church of Saint Demetrios, impressively set on the highest point of the cape opposite the settlement of Thymaina, was built in 1998 by Emmanouil Meligaris and his wife Antonia in memory of their son, Dimitris Meligaris, who died at age 21. The church has a spacious courtyard with a triple built bell tower and arches, and a few meters away lies Dimitris’s grave, positioned to look toward his beloved settlement. Inside, the church is adorned with impressive frescoes, donations from relatives and friends of the family. The church celebrates Saint Demetrios and is a landmark for visitors to Thymaina, offering unique views and a sense of the history and family remembrance that accompany it.
