Church of the Holy Trinity
On the northwest side of Fourni Korseon, near the settlement of Chrysomilia, stands the Chapel of the Holy Trinity, the area’s cemetery church. It was built in 1927 on the initiative and with the financial support of the Fourniots’ association in America, and it is a miniature of the main Church of Saint Nicholas, with similar exterior colors, especially on the dome. Its wooden iconostasis and icons, painted in the 1930s at the Skete of Saint Mark on Chios, include Western-style depictions of the Holy Trinity, the Transfiguration, the Virgin Hodegetria, and the Prophet Elijah. The chapel is built atop the ruins of a Hellenistic tower and near remains of an older sanctuary dedicated to Poseidon, while its masonry incorporates architectural members from the ancient tower, which also survive scattered in the area. The Holy Trinity is honored three times a year—Trinity Sunday, the Holy Spirit, and the Prophet Elijah—keeping alive the place’s historical and religious tradition.
