Polichnitos Thermal Springs
The hot springs of Polichnitos, on the banks of the Almyropotamos, rank among Lesvos’ most impressive natural phenomena and are considered the hottest springs in Europe. Their waters bubble up at temperatures reaching 95°C, linked to the island’s geothermal activity and ancient magmatic chambers. The emergence occurs through faults and porous volcanic rocks, and their chemical composition is mainly chlorosodic, with noteworthy lithium content. The surrounding rocks, in yellowish and red hues from iron oxides, enhance the distinctive landscape. The springs are indicated for rheumatism, arthritis, sciatica, myalgia, gynecological conditions, and skin diseases, making them a popular spa-tourism destination. The natural environment combined with the water’s therapeutic properties offers an experience of wellbeing and connection with the power of Lesvos’ earth.
