Argennos Thermal Springs

Image

The hot springs of Argenos, also known as “Megala Therma,” lie on the island’s north coast, east of Molyvos and near the Eftalou spring. The Argenos thermal spring is coastal, with vents both on land and in the sea. The water that bubbles up on the beach has a temperature of 65–86°C. It is a chlorosodic spring, where the sulfate-to-chloride ratio is stable, lying between the value in seawater and that of the Polichnitos hot springs. The Argenos spring water also has relatively reduced carbonates and magnesium and increased calcium and sulfates compared to the Polichnitos hot spring waters. They emerge through volcanic rocks that are intensely fractured.
