Heraion
The settlement of Ireon is located in southern Samos, at the south‑western edge of the Chora plain, 22 km from Samos Town and 7.5 km from Pythagoreio, and serves as the seaside outlet of the Pagondas community. It is a picturesque village with a lovely seafront zone, where old fishermen’s huts have been turned into restaurants, cafés and small tourism businesses. The village’s economy is based mainly on tourism, and secondarily on fishing and agriculture. Highlights include the internationally renowned Temple of Hera with its imposing columns, the stone‑paved Sacred Way that once led to Pythagoreio, and the archaeological site around the temple. The settlement blends traditional character with modern tourist infrastructure and hosts cultural events, such as the three‑day “Ireon Music Festival,” offering a complete experience for visitors.
