Monastery of Zoodochos Pigi
The Holy Monastery of Zoodochos Pigi, also known as Ailiotissa, lies at Samos’s eastern end, at about 400 m on Mount Rampaedoni, with views toward Asia Minor and the Mykale Strait. It was founded in 1756 by Hieromonk Dorotheos, on the site of an earlier chapel, and has the form of a quadrangular complex with two‑storey wings. The katholikon was built in 1782 and is a cross‑in‑square church with a dome and narthex; inside, the carved and gilded iconostasis (1802) stands out, along with old icons and woodcarvings. The revered icon of Zoodochos Pigi, adorned with silver from 1793, is also significant. The monastery celebrates on Bright Friday and, since 2002, operates as a convent with a small sisterhood mainly engaged in icon painting.
