Monastery of the Holy Trinity
The Holy Monastery of the Holy Trinity, also known as New Zoodochos Pigi, is located at Katrafili, near Mytilinioi, and is the newest monastery on Samos. It was founded in 1824 by Hieromonk Neophytos on the site of an earlier church, while the present katholikon was erected in 1905. Architecturally it belongs to the Athonite four‑column triconch type, with the dome supported on four columns which, according to tradition, come from a building of ancient Glyfada, in today’s Pythagoreio. Notable features include the marble iconostasis (1920), the proskynetaria and the silver‑clad icon of Zoodochos Pigi (1884), while the marble bell tower of 1884, renovated in 1908, is of particular interest. The monastery celebrates on Whit Monday, has a rich library and is linked to Samos’s pilgrimage tradition.
