Church of the Presentation of the Virgin in Mesotopos

Image

In the heart of Mesotopos, the Holy Church of the Presentation of the Virgin stands prominently—one of the area’s foremost religious and architectural monuments. The church dates to the late 18th century and is a hallmark of Lesvos ecclesiastical architecture, blending the austerity of Byzantine tradition with elements of folk art. Inside, the gilded wooden iconostasis of exceptional craftsmanship impresses, bearing icons from the 18th and 19th centuries. Of particular value are the icons of the Virgin and Christ, works that exude reverence and artistic perfection. The church’s stone construction, elegant proportions, and imposing dome compose a picture of understated grandeur in harmony with the village’s traditional landscape. It is honored every year on November 21, the Feast of the Presentation of the Virgin, with a splendid celebration that draws crowds of faithful from all over Lesvos.
