Kampos of Chios

The Kampos of Chios, just 6 km south of the town, is one of the island’s most distinctive and aristocratic districts, where nature and architecture coexist harmoniously. Known for its fragrant citrus orchards and impressive mansions built by local and Genoese families from the 14th century onward, Kampos is designated a traditional settlement and historic site. High walls of Thymianousa stone enclose each estate, protecting the colorful gardens and stone‑built houses with arched doors, marble supports, and pebble‑paved courtyards. Many mansions are open to visitors today, offering a unique tour through the atmosphere of another era in a landscape full of aromas and history. With its natural beauty and unique architecture, Kampos is a living museum of Chian culture and a favorite destination for strolling and exploration.
