Lesvos
Vathylimnos Waterfall
On the western peninsula of Lesvos, between the settlements of Pterounta and Chidira, lies the small but particularly beautiful Vathylimnos Waterfall. Its waters spring from the Prophet Elias massif, whose slopes host the island’s only Black Pine forest. Among the forest thrive riparian plant communities with rhododendron, peony, and the great fern known as Osmunda regalis. Vathylimnos Waterfall formed along a fault, between lavas dating from 16.5 to 21.5 million years ago.
