Palaiokastro
The thermal spring of Karlovasi, in the Potami area, is officially recognized as a natural therapeutic resource and has a long history. Locals noticed the spring about 40 years ago when they observed that the sea at certain points near the beach was lukewarm. A coordinated effort followed, leading to the opening of a 156‑meter tunnel in 1958, revealing two springs with water temperatures between 29 and 36°C. The water’s chemical composition gives it therapeutic properties suitable for treating many ailments. Management of the spring has been transferred to the Municipality of Western Samos, with the aim of future development and the addition of tourist infrastructure that will showcase this important resource as a health‑tourism destination.
