Pessa Waterfall

Image

Pessa Waterfall lies near the settlement of Vasilika, east of the Gulf of Kalloni. The waterfall formed due to faults affecting the area’s ophiolitic rocks and the otherwise smooth flow of the Makris stream, which rises from the northwestern foothills of Mount Olympus, creating pronounced steps in the relief. Its waters plunge from a cliff about 15 m high. The force of the water causes swirling as it falls, deepening the bed and creating a natural pool. The course of the water then leads toward the Gulf of Kalloni, where it empties near Agios Pavlos Beach.
