Nychtera Klapados Waterfall

Image

In northwestern Lesvos, from Kalloni toward Molyvos, lies the abandoned rural village of Klapados, a place of great historical significance, as the last victorious battles of the Greek against the Turkish troops for the liberation of Lesvos took place there in December 1912. Well hidden in the surrounding forest lies Nychtera Waterfall, with water plunging sharply from a 15–16 m cliff, creating a natural deepening at the point of impact and thus forming a natural pool. The water continues toward the Gulf of Kalloni, after first joining a larger river, the Tsiknias. The steep cliff over which the water falls was formed along the fault that crosses the wider area.
