Lemnos
Katsaiti Waterfall
Katsaiti Waterfall lies north of Agios Ioannis and is formed by the stream of the same name. Its waters drop about 7 meters over the rocks of Lemnos, their force creating a small natural pool at the base. The waterfall owes its presence to the active Kaspakas fault, which caused abrupt discontinuities in the rocks. Around the waterfall one can clearly observe the contrast between different rock types: older sedimentary and newer volcanic rocks that ended up side by side due to past seismic events. This spot is a striking example of the natural beauty and geological history of Lemnos.
