Folklore Museum of Mesotopos

In the heart of the traditional settlement of Mesotopos, the Folklore Museum is housed in the old olive press of the Agricultural Cooperative, a building of characteristic Lesvian architecture transformed into a place of cultural memory by the care and passion of the residents. The museum’s purpose is to showcase and preserve the area’s cultural elements and everyday life in the late 19th and 20th centuries. Its collection includes tools, household utensils, furniture, handiwork and textiles, donated by residents and reflecting the lifestyle, agricultural activity and traditional professions of the area. A special section hosts archaeological finds from the wider region, such as a marble small column with an honorific inscription to Constantine the Great from Chrousos and parts of chancel screens from an Early Christian basilica near Podaras. The museum operates in the summer months, hosting folklore events, happenings and photography exhibitions, offering a living journey into the memory, tradition and cultural identity of western Lesvos.
