Folklore Museum of Vrakades

The Folklore Museum of Agios Kirykos offers a unique tour of Ikaria’s traditional life and history. Its collection includes traditional costumes, textiles, household utensils and tools of trades such as farmer, shepherd and cobbler, as well as war artifacts from 1821–1945 and exhibits of ecclesiastical life. Most exhibits come from donations by island families, aiming to preserve and pass on customs to younger generations. The museum was founded in April 1966 by historian and archaeologist Themistoklis Katsaros and, since 1990, has been housed on the ground floor of the Agios Kirykos Philharmonic. Its purpose is to collect, record, conserve and display its objects, offering visitors a living journey through time and the cultural heritage of Ikaria.
