Folklore Museum of Agios Polykarpos
The Archaeological Museum of Kambos lies within the archaeological site of ancient Oinoe and is housed in a neoclassical building of 1939, erected with volunteer labor by residents and financial contributions from Ikarians in America and Australia. It was created to house the significant archaeological finds of northern Ikaria. Its collections include objects from Kambos (ancient Oinoe), the Temple of Artemis Tauropolos at Nas, and from the areas of Arethousa, Christos Rachon, Proespera, Frantato and others. The exhibits include vases, statues, grave goods, sarcophagi, figurines and architectural members, highlighting Ikaria’s history and culture through the centuries. A special place is held by a marble sarcophagus of late antiquity, decorated with reliefs, exhibited in the courtyard of the Church of St. Irene next to the museum.
