Lefkathia

Image

Just 2 kilometers from the village of Volissos lies one of the island’s loveliest beaches, Lefkathia. It is a beautiful enclosed, semicircular cove with clear waters that appears among the area’s small hills. According to locals, there are two versions of how the beach got its name. The first says it was named for the pure‑white lilies that grow in the sand (Lefka Anthi), while the second attributes it to an ancient temple of the goddess Leucothea once located here. A few years ago, the renowned sculptor Kyriakos Rokos, visiting the area for his holidays, carved a figure into one of the rocks on the beach, on the left side of the cove, and wrote a legend about it.
