Chios
Neochori

Neochori, one of the 24 medieval Mastichochoria of Chios, lies inland on the island’s southeast side and retains its traditional character despite damage from the 1881 earthquake. The settlement is built with a defensive layout: stone houses packed together and narrow vaulted alleyways leading to the imposing Paliopyrgos, the village’s old defensive tower. At the center stands the Church of the Presentation of the Theotokos, while nearby are the historic Monastery of Agios Minas and the popular beach of Agia Fotini, known for its lodgings and tavernas. Neochori offers a calm, authentic experience, blending its medieval architecture with residents’ hospitality, and celebrates every year on 12 August in honor of Saint Photini.
