Oinousses Maritime Museum
The Nautical Museum of Oinousses stands on the harborfront in the center of the port. Founded in 1965, it is housed in the Pantelis Antonios Lemos Mansion to display ship models, paintings, nautical instruments, documents and books, all related to Oinousses’ seafaring tradition. All items in the original collection came from donations by Oinoussian families. Newer ship models have been added over time, as well as the famous collection of Antonis Lemos of Napoleonic-era ship models made by French prisoners of the British after the wars of 1793 - 1815. Visitors can admire important exhibits and, through them, grasp the island’s great maritime tradition. Other notable collections include travelers’ and battle weapons of the 18th - 19th century, paintings by Aristidis Glykas depicting Oinoussian sailing ships and steamers, and ship models from the early 20th century to the present.
