Botanical Observation

All year round, visitors can enjoy Chios’s rich flora, with wildflowers in abundance from late winter to early summer. Colchicums, cyclamens, crocuses, and sea daffodils are among the plant species that grow on the island. A range of orchids also appears in various locations. Specifically, 110 species and subspecies of orchid have been recorded; orchids are a protected group found in habitats such as coastal zones, high mountains, cultivated fields, and wetlands. The succession of spring and summer blooms includes four species of anemone, four tulips, four poppies, gladioli, dense shrubs, brooms, irises, and many more. Herbs including sage and oregano abound. You can encounter a great variety of flowers at Kato Fana, Managros beach, Mount Pelinnaio, the Kambia Gorge, and in many of the Mastichochoria.
