Bird Watching
Lemnos is an ideal destination for birdwatching. Pink flamingos, snow-white swans, delicate little egrets, proud island partridges, and small lesser kestrels are among the migratory and endemic birds that use the island’s wetlands (Chortarolimni, Aliki Lagoon, Asprolimni) and inhabited areas (Rousopouli, Repanidi, Kontopouli, and Kalliopi) as stopovers and wintering grounds. Binoculars, a camera, and a love of nature are the basic gear for enthusiasts. Accordingly, Lemnos is an excellent choice, with observatories at various points easily reached by road. The Environmental Information Center housed in the old primary school of Kalliopi is a key source of information on the island’s natural wealth. You can contact the staff before your visit.
