Pallimnian School Fund
The Pan-Lemnian School Fund, founded in 1927, continues to this day its valuable charitable work on Lemnos, with roots linked to the historic Estate of the Metropolis. The estate appears in travelers’ accounts from the 11th century, and by the 18th century its revenues already financed the island’s education. In the 19th century, working with donations from Lemnians of the diaspora—mainly in Egypt, the USA, and Australia—it became a mainstay of education, funding schools, scholarships, and infrastructure. After Lemnos joined the Greek state, the Fund evolved into a body that strengthened school facilities, providing building materials and land for public buildings such as the Gymnasium, the Hospital, and the Archaeological Museum. Today it still supports the island, notably by granting its central building to the University of the Aegean in 2007, keeping its long tradition of giving alive.
