Old Parliament of Psara

Before the Revolution, Psara’s Parliament met on the square of the Elders (Demogerontia), in front of the relevant building. After the island’s destruction and until 1912, the building remained inactive. Upon liberation it was repaired and housed the Gendarmerie Station. Under the German Occupation it served as Headquarters and observation post, and after their departure it stood empty for years, suffering serious damage. In 1978, thanks to the efforts of the “Brotherhood of Psarians,” chaired by Dimitrios G. Andrianas, and with the assistance of the GNTO and Panagiotis Lamprias, its restoration was decided. In 1980 it operated for the first time as a GNTO guesthouse. Since 1999, its use has passed to the Church of Agios Nikolaos. However, since 2004 it has remained closed, with the Municipality and the Church seeking its repair and reopening.
