Potami Beach is located near Karlovasi and is easily accessible by road. It took its name from the Kerkytios River or “Chestnut River,” which flows into the middle of the shore. It is one of Samos’s best‑known beaches and in 2020 was ranked among the ten best beaches in Europe. Surrounded by lush natural scenery, it stands out for its glossy pebbles and deep, crystal‑clear waters, while northerly winds produce heavy surf. Part of the beach is organized, with a beach bar and a few sunbeds with umbrellas. Landmarks include the picturesque chapel of St. Nicholas overlooking from above, as well as the small waterfalls at the back of the gorge. The beach is considered one of the island’s most photogenic, with an impressive sunset view.
