Olympoi Cave
The Olympoi Cave lies in the island’s south, 35 kilometers from Chios town and 5 kilometers from the medieval settlement of Olympoi. Its vertical development makes it particularly interesting. Situated at about 110 meters above sea level, it is a vertical cave (speleopothole) 52 m deep. It boasts rich and impressive stalactite and stalagmite formations, ranking it among the most noteworthy and beautiful caves in Greece. Its relative humidity exceeds 95%, while the temperature remains almost constant, around 18°C. Its rich calcitic decor features intricate shapes to which speleologists have given names such as “Medusa,” “Organ,” “Cave People,” etc. The cave facilities include a souvenir shop and refreshment kiosk. It is open to visitors, with a guide, from early May to late September.
