"Georgios Iakovidis" Digital Museum
The “Georgios Iakovidis” Digital Museum in Chydira, Lesvos, the painter’s birthplace, is Greece’s first fully digital art museum. It was created on the initiative of the “N.G. Papadimitriou” Educational and Cultural Foundation, implemented by the company KOIRANIA, with the aim of highlighting the life and work of the acclaimed artist. Using contemporary systems of digital projection and interaction, the museum presents exclusively digital reproductions of works organized into thematic units. Specifically, it presents the artist’s personality and oeuvre, and there is a specially designed space for screening a short video about his artistic trajectory in Athens and Munich. Visitors can explore the paintings with innovative tools such as a magnifier, detail isolation, and comparative analysis with works by the artist or his teachers, combining narration and graphics. In this way, the museum “brings the works to life,” offering a unique experience of learning and enjoyment.
