Windmills in Kampi
The old stone windmills in the village of Kampi are among the most characteristic sights of the island of Fourni Korseon. They stand about 1 km from Chora, and their position offers panoramic views over the island and the open sea, making them an integral element of the Aegean landscape. Built of stone with conical wooden roofs, these windmills were used mainly to grind grain and other materials, and their use continued into the early 20th century. Their construction required specialized craftsmen, and they were placed on heights where wind conditions were favorable. In the southern part of Fourni a complex of windmills survives, a significant part of the island’s cultural heritage and a subject of study both nationally and internationally.
