Gomati Sand Dunes

Northwest of the island, 3 km from the village of Katalakkos near Gomati beach, lie the famous Sand Dunes of Lemnos, a natural monument resembling an African desert. Known locally as “Pachies Ammoudies,” they are an impressive phenomenon of sand hills covering 70 stremmas. This striking “desert” bears witness to the presence of the sea in the area during the Paleolithic era.
