Agia Markella

Agia Markella beach is in northwestern Chios, 44 kilometers from Chios town and 6.5 kilometers from Volissos. It consists of coarse sand and pebbles and is known for its cold, clear waters and deep seabed. It takes its name from the eponymous shrine in the area, dedicated to Saint Markella, the island’s patron saint. At the end of the beach there is a path leading to the Hagiasma of Agia Markella, where warm water wells up from the earth in the sea.
