Christos Rachon, one of the largest and liveliest villages in northern Ikaria, is built amphitheatrically on the slopes of Ammoudia peak, at an elevation of 420 meters, amid lush greenery with plane trees, pines and running waters. The settlement is known for the unusual hours of its shops, which open mainly in the evening, shaping the so‑called “Ikariot time” and giving the village a reputation as “the place that never sleeps.” In the flagstone square, the Church of the Transfiguration dominates, where every 6 August one of the island’s biggest festivals is held. Locals and visitors gather to enjoy local meze, sweets from the Women’s Cooperative of Raches and locally produced goods. Christos is a point of reference in northern Ikaria, combining natural beauty with authentic social life and offering a unique experience of hospitality and tradition.
