Citrus Museum – Perivoli Cultural Center
Perivoli is an exhibition space that presents documents and the history of Kambos’s citrus. Visitors can learn about: a) citrus cultivation, its tools and production methods, farming practices, varieties, and the special qualities of mandarins and other fruits; b) the people who contributed to the unique myth of Chian mandarins and other fruits—from the Genoese and merchants to growers, stewards, and Kambos lords; c) the commercial process from the early 15th century to Constantinople and Smyrna, the unique packaging, and the trade routes that made Chios citrus a luxury in European markets until the late 20th century; d) Kambos’s unique mansions and the walls that enclose them, the orchards; e) the area’s history, with residents recounting the rise and decline of the fruits of the Hesperides.
