Thymiana

Thymiana, one of the largest and liveliest villages of Chios, lies south of Kampos and is famed for the distinctive brownish‑red “Thymianousa” stone quarried locally and used to build mansions, churches, and boundary walls across the island. A standout example of this stone is the Church of Saint Efstratios (1890), with its intricate pebble‑paved forecourt. The village maintains a rich cultural tradition, crowned by the “Mostra of Thymiana,” a carnival with medieval roots revived every Cheesefare Sunday, featuring dances such as the “talimi” and an impressive float parade. Today, Thymiana combines traditional architecture, historical identity, and the warm hospitality of its residents, offering visitors authentic flavors and vibrant local color.
