Ouzo Museum of the Hellenic Distillery Industry
In Pagani, Mytilene, on the road to Kalloni, are the modern facilities of the Hellenic Distillation Industry (EVA) and the Ouzo Museum, a space dedicated to the island’s emblematic spirit. The museum offers an authentic introduction to the history and art of distillation, presenting the evolution of ouzo production through rich exhibits from the old distillery. Visitors can admire old copper stills, distillation and bottling machines, a grape press, and an antique refrigerator dating to the early 1900s. Of special interest is the large collection of bottles and labels, which traces the historical course of Lesvos’ distilleries. The museum also features reconstructions from the past, such as a traditional Mytilenian in island dress enjoying his ouzo and a typical 1930s café with tables and chairs, transporting visitors to another era. The experience concludes with tastings of EVA’s award-winning products, uniquely linking ouzo’s heritage with the modern know-how and tradition of Lesvian distillation.
