Ikaria’s Pramnian Wine is a historical legend of the Greek vineyard, directly linked to the worship of Dionysus and already mentioned in Homer’s Odyssey and Iliad, making it one of the oldest recorded wines of the ancient world. Today, the tradition of Pramnian Wine continues through the production of wines with Protected Geographical Indication (P.G.I.) Ikaria, which are based mainly on the indigenous varieties Fokiano (red) and Begleri (white). These wines are an integral part of the diet of the Ikarians, a fact highlighted by Blue Zone researchers as one of the factors contributing to the island’s inhabitants’ exceptional longevity. Winemaking in Ikaria is characterized by adherence to traditional practices, such as cultivation on terraces and the use of clay jars for fermentation.

The Aspromytiko Bean of Lemnos is a unique product with a Protected Designation of Origin (PDO), cultivated exclusively in Lemnos and distinguished for its special taste and high nutritional value.
Kasseri Mytilinis is one of the most important cheese products of Lesvos, forming part of the broader PDO Kasseri (Protected Designation of Origin), whose geographical production zone includes Macedonia, Thessaly, as well as the Prefectures of Lesvos and Xanthi. It is a semi-hard cheese made from heated curd, with a cohesive texture, whitish-yellow color, and a characteristic, pleasant flavor and rich aroma due to the quality of the goat and sheep milk of Lesvos. The island’s production contributes to the preservation of the traditional technique of “pasta filata” cheese (stretched curd), constituting a key pillar of the local livestock and processing economy.
Arnaki Limnou (Lamb of Lemnos) is a select livestock product that was recognized as a Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) in 2022. This meat comes from carcasses of lambs that are born, raised and slaughtered exclusively within the islands of Lemnos and Agios Efstratios, thereby confirming its indissoluble bond with the distinctive island ecosystem and the local, traditional rearing practices. The product’s unique identity is due mainly to the semi-extensive rearing method and to the diet based on grazing the island’s native flora and on the mother’s milk, factors that give the meat particular tenderness, a juicy texture and a pleasant taste and aroma.
Moschato Lemnou, as a wine, is a product with deep roots in the island’s winemaking tradition, even though its grape variety, Muscat of Alexandria, is a relatively recent addition to the local vineyard compared to the native Limnio (Kalampaki). Its establishment is due to its excellent adaptation to the island’s distinctive volcanic soil and dry, warm climate, yielding wines with intense aromatic characteristics, balanced acidity and a characteristic sweetness. Its reputation, especially in its sweet version, has crossed the borders of Greece, making it a highly sought-after dessert wine.
